Procedures for changing IP (v4) address on Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris

Solaris 2.5 through Solaris 9

Change IP in the following file(s):

  1. /etc/hosts
[edit]

Solaris 10 prior to update 4

Change IP in the following file(s):

  1. /etc/hosts
  2. /etc/inet/ipnodes
[edit]

Solaris 10 update 4 and later

Change IP in the following file(s):

  1. /etc/hosts
[edit]

SXCE releases prior 2/07 Developer Release

Change IP in the following file(s):

  1. /etc/hosts
  2. /etc/inet/ipnodes
[edit]

SXCE Solaris 2/07 Developer Release and later

Change IP in the following file(s):

  1. /etc/hosts
[edit]

If new IP address is on a different subnet

  1. Change the router address in the file /etc/defaultrouter
  2. Verify that the correct netmask is listed in /etc/netmasks (and add it if it is not)
